The Batesville Lady Bulldog softball team defeated Lawrenceburg by a score of 2-1 in 13 innings.
The Tigers struck first in the 4th inning when Person scored off a 5-3 ground out.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 1-1 in the 7th inning after Ellie Waechter tripled to CF and then scored off a Sierra Cornn sacrifice fly.
In the 13th inning, Sarah Wilson singled to centerfield followed by a single to center by Waechter. Cornn grounded out to advance both runners. Gabi Garcia was intentionally walked to load the bases. Kylie Laker flyed out on shallow popup in foul territory. Then with a 3-1 count, Abigail Westerfeld watched ball four low to advance Wilson to win the game.
Kara Obermeyer pitched all 13 innings, striking out 2 and giving up 1 walk, 7 hits, and 1 run on 130 pitches to 45 batters.
Waechter led the team at the plate going 4 for 6 with 3 singles and a triple. Obermeyer and Wilson each ended the game with 2 hits each. Garcia, Laker, Westerfeld, and Cornn had 1 hit each.
Wilson ended the game with 23 putouts while Huffner finished with 9 assists. Obermeyer with 7, and Burkhart with 6.
The Bulldogs put out 39 batters and turned 3 double plays in the defensive masterpiece.
“This was a game of a lifetime for both teams, win or lose. Thankfully the Bulldogs were on the winning side of it though,” BHS head coach Randy Obermeyer commented. “For nearly the 1st time all season, we went an entire game without one of “those” innings where we fall apart defensively and give up multiple runs, and we did it for 13 innings!”
“Wow! I couldn’t be more proud,” he added.
