The Batesville varsity baseball team suffered its first loss of the season in an 11-7 decision to New Palestine.
The Bulldogs were leading 7-0 in the fifth until New Palestine plated one and then Jacob Garrison hit a grand slam to make it 7-5. New Palestine was down 7-5 in the top of the seventh inning when Nick Rusche doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. The Dragons seized the lead by scoring four more, making the final 11-7.
Batesville collected nine hits and New Palestine had 12 in the high-scoring affair.
The Bulldogs got things started in the second inning. A suicide squeeze bunt by Joe Bohman scored one run for Batesville.
Joe Bohman took the loss for the Bulldogs pitching in relief. He went two-thirds of an inning, allowing four runs on four hits and walking zero. Sam Voegele started the game for Batesville. He allowed four hits and four runs over four innings, striking out two.
The Bulldogs collected nine hits on the day. Quinn Werner and Trey Heidlage both managed two hits to lead the Bulldogs.
