The Bulldogs won big over Madison 10-2 in their first round of sectionals.
Madison fired up the offense in the second inning and scored twice.
Despite the sluggish start, the Bulldogs pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third, Drew Kiefer doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Calvin Sherwood singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, and Sam Voegele’s sac fly scored one run for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs tallied three runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by the Bulldogs was led by Quinn Werner and Sherwood, who all drove in runs.
Lane Oesterling was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs. He allowed zero hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four. Caleb Raab threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
The Bulldogs racked up 15 hits in the game. Sherwood, Trey Heidlage, Werner, and Trey Peters each managed multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Heidlage and Sherwood each collected three hits to lead Batesville. The Bulldogs stole 11 bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Sherwood led the way with four.
