It was a great Saturday for the Batesville High School Cross Country teams.
Although the race was a little later in the day and the heat was upon us, the Bulldogs accepted the challenge, showed tons of mental toughness, and did not let the circumstances get to them, according to coach Lisa Gausman.
“They rose to the occasion and ran awesome…exceptional,” Gausman commented. “I have never been so proud of this team!”
The boys took home the sectional championship trophy, beating the field of 11 teams by 15 points.
Batesville scored a low 34 points with 6 runners earning the honors of the All-Sectional team by placing in the top 20. In fact, they were all at 13 or higher. Leading the team for the dogs was Adam Moster who placed third at 17:12. The next four Bulldogs were only separated by five seconds coming in one right after another and they were, Dillon Murray, 6th (18:00), Joshua Myers, 7th (18:01), Christopher Laymon, 8th (18:03) and Joseph Choi, 10th (18:05). This pack was closely followed by Quinten Gowdy at 13th (18:20). The 7th varsity runner for Batesville, just missing the top 20 in 27th spot was Garrett Wagner (19:30).
Other boys teams advancing to Regional competition are East Central, 2nd (49 points), South Dearborn, 3rd (122 points), Greensburg, 4th (141 points) and Rising Sun, 5th (160 points).
