Game Recap

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs played an exciting last home game of the 2017 season on Tuesday night as they faced off against the Columbus North Lady Bulldogs. Batesville improved to 13-2 with an impressive 4-3 victory over the visiting Lady Bulldogs.

Batesville got off to a fast start on Tuesday night scoring twice in the first 11 minutes. After earning an early corner kick, Ellie Cassidy put a good ball into the box that Baylee Rohlfing was able to control and she found Georgia Gratz inside the 6-yard box. Gratz settled the ball and found an opening for the score. 4 minutes later, Batesville struck again. This time, it was Liz Heidlage who struck a quick shot from distance that rocketed past the opposing GK for the score. Bre Moman was credited the assist.

After a Columbus North score on a direct kick, Batesville was able to increase the lead to 3-1 with 18 minutes to play in the first half. A great ball found Hailey Mohr into space on the right wing and she took a great cross that went up and over the GK and found a wide open Carlie Werner for a great header goal. With 11 seconds to play in the half, Columbus North was awarded a very questionable penalty kick. After Columbus North converted the penalty kick, Batesville would take a narrow 3-2 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Batesville would extend the lead once again. With 18 minutes to go in the game, Taylor Rowlett finished her 18th goal of the game. Gratz gained possession and took the space in front of her until she had a defender commit, once the defender stepped up, Gratz found Rowlett in the space behind her and Rowlett ripped a shot into the upper 90 for the score. With Batesville now up 4-2, they settled back in to their game and did what they do best and would hold on for the victory. Columbus North scored with 6 minutes to go in the game to make it 4-3, but the Batesville defense stayed strong and didn’t give up another shot for the remainder of the match.

“This was an exciting game to watch for the fans! We had another great crowd tonight and I am glad the girls were able to put on a show for the home fans who have been so supportive of our team this season,” coach Kyle Laker commented. “It was nice to avenge our regional loss to Columbus North from last season and pick up a big win tonight.

“Gabi Garcia played great in goal and her defense also worked hard to preserve the victory,” he added.

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs will finish their regular season schedule as they travel to Franklin County on Thursday night for a varsity only match at 7:00.
