Game Recap

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs lost a tough one on Thursday night to the host East Central Lady Trojans. Batesville and East Central entered the game undefeated and both teams looked to get a key win on the season against their conference rivals.

East Central took the lead with 9:30 left in the first half. Ema Hinton found space behind the weakside defense and a ball was played through to her for the score. Batesville was able to net the equalizer with 2:36 left in the half. The Lady Bulldogs had a well-executed corner that bounced off the near post, Georgia Gratz slid to keep the ball alive and dropped it back to Taylor Rowlett who hit a one-time shot to the far side net. Unfortunately for Batesville, the 1-1 game did not last for long. On the pursuing kickoff, East Central marched down the field and earned a corner of their own. After Molly Wintz made the initial save on the corner, Hinton was able to collect the rebound and found the back of the net for her second score of the match.

In the second half, Batesville was the dominant team and outshot East Central 8-3 in the half and 13-12 for the game. Throughout the half, Batesville had some great opportunities and tested the EC keeper. Shipman was up for the challenge in goal and saved every Batesville attempt in the 2nd stanza. With 15 minutes to play, Batesville made some tactical changes and pushed numbers forward to try to even the score. With 7:52 in the game, the Lady Trojans sealed the victory with a counter-attack goal by Lauren deLong. East Central was victorious 3-1 and moves to 10-0 on the season, and Batesville drops its first game of the season with a record of 10-1.

Coach Laker commented, “we played our game tonight and I am proud of the team for that. A couple of breaks went EC’s way, and the next game they could just as easily go our way. This was a great game to watch between two evenly matched squads.”

The two teams will meet again on September 25th in what should prove to be the conference championship game. It will be a great game to watch, so mark it on your calendar to come out and support the Lady Bulldogs.
