The Lady Bulldogs played the Columbus East Olympians on Thursday evening and came away with a 3-2 victory.
Throughout the first half the Bulldogs controlled the field and dominated the play. They were connecting passes and making aggressive runs, which made it difficult for the Olympians to defend their goal. After a short 5 minutes Callie Main scored for Batesville’s first goal with an assist from Lauren Gutzwiller. Not shortly after Main responded with another goal, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. To end the half on a high note, Allie Redwine finished an amazing run with a low shot the Olympians keeper could not stop. Caroline Kellerman assisted her goal from the midfield. This led the ladies to finish the half with a 3-0 lead against Columbus East.
Columbus East responded with connecting passes on offense and having high pressure on defense. Batesville was trying their best to protect their goal with aggressive defense. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to keep up with the constant attack and let a goal in off of a free kick about 10 minutes into the half. The Lady Olympians controlled a majority of the second half and with the momentum on their side. They were able to sneak another goal in to advance their comeback to 3-2 with Batesville still in the lead.
Defensively, Rachel Kuntz was shutting down plays left and right on the right side of the field. Lily Esser was assisting the defense in the middle to ensure no more goals were scored against the Lady Bulldogs.
