The Batesville Lady Bulldogs moved to 4-0 on the season with a win over at Jac-Cen-Del by a score of 3-1.
The Lady Bulldogs managed just 2 hits off the JCD pitching and struck out 14 times, but still managed to pull out a victory.
“We struggled against their pitcher all night,” commented head coach Randy Obermeyer. “We just couldn’t get our bats going for any solid hits against her speed and location.”
After being tied 1-1 in the 1st inning, the Lady Bulldogs found their way on base when Sarah Wilson reached on a dropped third strike. A sacrifice bunt by Sierra Cornn advanced Wilson to second. Wilson then went to third on a passed ball. After a successful bunt by Kate Burkhart, she advanced to second with a stolen base. Another passed ball allowed Wilson to score. A dropped third strike on Jennifer Speer allowed her to take first base and Burkhart to score the Bulldogs last run of the game.
Two more great innings of defense allowed the Bulldogs to hold the Lady Eagles scoreless to take the win.
Pitching leader Kara Obermeyer finished the night with six strikeouts with only one walk. Whitney Axsom closed the game out in the seven th inning with three strikeouts.
The lone hits of the game were credited to Burkhart and Axsom.
Kelsey Huffner turned in a solid effort at shortstop and closed the game going 4 for 4 with ground outs, according to Obermeyer.
