Game Recap

The Batesville varsity softball team started the season with a pair of wins on Saturday against the Rising Sun Lady Shiners by the scores of 6-3 and 13-2.

“With only four outside practices since the season started on March 6th, the Lady Bulldogs played both sides of the game very well”, reported head coach Randy Obermeyer.

Fielding leader, Kate Burkhart, played outfield for the first time in her career and finished with five catches and 0 errors on the day, while Ellie Waechter finished with three catches and zero errors.

Pitching leader Whitney Axom finished the pair of games with 12 strikeouts and three runs in eight innings, while Kara Obermeyer finished with four strikeouts and two runs in 5 innings.

Obermeyer finished the day with five hits in eight at bats with five RBIs. Sierra Cornn ended with two hits and four RBI, while Kylie Paul was 3-for-8 with two RBI. The trio had zero strikeouts as well.

As a team, the Lady Bulldogs finished the double header with 18 of 57 at the plate (13 singles, 3 doubles, and 2 triples) with eight strikeouts, eight walks, and six stolen bases.

“I was extremely pleased with our ability to produce runs. We scored in 9 of of the 12 innings we played” Obermeyer commented. “On the other side of the field, we only allowed runs in 4 of the innings”
