The Batesville Lady Bulldogs hosted the Greensburg Lady Pirates on Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Pirates by a final score of 11-0. Batesville struck first in the 8th minute of the game. Georgia Gratz sent a through ball into space, Sylvia Phillips beat the Greensburg defenders to the ball, cut left and struck a shot into the top of the goal. The Lady Bulldogs scored a minute later on a corner kick from Carissa Werner. Werner sent the ball into the box where Phillips met in the air to deflect the pass to Taylor Rowlett who put the shot away. Rowlett would strike again 8 minutes later. Hailey Mohr played a ball through the Greensburg defense and Rowlett finished it past the Greensburg goalkeeper. Gratz added Batesville’s 4th goal after another assist from Phillips.
With 4 minutes to play in the first half, Rowlett was fouled from behind on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty kick. Taylor was able to tuck the shot into the side net to finish off her 2nd straight hat trick. Batesville would add its final goal of the half with just 7 seconds left in the first half. Carlie Werner collected a ball that was played into the corner, she cut let and moved parallel to the 18 until she was within range and drove a left footed shot past the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper.
The defense played another solid game giving up only 1 shot through 80 minutes. Julia Hunter made a nice save to maintain the 2nd straight shutout for the Lady Bulldog defense.
In the second stanza, the Lady Bulldogs would score 5 more times. Three of the goals would come in the first 6 minutes of the half. Gratz added her second goal of the match after Baylee Rohlfing made a run up the sideline from her outside defense position and crossed the ball into the path of Gratz for the score. Rowlett would add another to her tally for her 4th goal of the game and 7th goal of the early 2016 campaign. Carlie Werner sent the ball to the middle where Rowlett collected and sent it into the goal. Phillips would add her second goal of the match to go along with her 2 assists. This time it was Gratz who chested a ball down to Phillips for the score. Hailey Mohr scored the 10th and 11th goals for Batesville. Marigrace Anderson collected the assists on both of the Mohr goals. The second was an impressive header pass from Anderson to Mohr who also headed the ball into the goal.
Sylvia Phillips was named the Player Of The Match with her 2 goal and 2 assist performance. Phillips has worked hard all off-season to come back from a season-ending ACL surgery after suffering an injury during the Greenwood game last season. In both games this year, she has contributed to the scoreboard. She now has 3 goals and 3 assists.
Batesville is back in action next Tuesday against another conference opponent South Dearborn.
