Batesville High School
East Central High School
On Saturday night, East Central and Batesville battled once more to determine who would be crowned the Sectional 26 Championship at Greensburg.
Both teams started off quickly and traded shots back and forth for the first 10 minutes. 13 minutes into the game, the Lady Trojans were able to get on the scoreboard with a nice cross and finished to make it 1-0 EC.
Batesville didn’t put their head down and give up, instead they stepped their game up and put East Central under pressure throughout the half. A couple of good looks at the goal were either saved by the goalkeeper or one of their defenders on a couple of open net opportunities for the Lady Bulldogs.
The teams went into halftime still clinging to the 1-0 advantage. “We played hard in the first half and had our opportunities. We just needed keep giving 100% and one of the shots would find the back of the net” Coach Laker told his team at halftime.
In the second half, it was another good fight from both squads. Both teams had chances, but neither team was able to score. For the game, East Central had a 19-13 advantage on shots. Gabi Garcia led the Batesville defense to a great game along with Carissa Werner, Karsen Worthington, and Ella Gutzwiller.
“I was extremely proud of our girls tonight. We played with as much effort and intensity than I have seen all year. We had our chances on goal, but unfortunately it wasn’t our night for them to fall. East Central was ranked 15th and haven’t lost to an Indiana team all year. We gave them their best match and couldn’t ask for anything more” Coach Laker commented on his teams effort.
