Batesville High School
The Batesville Bulldogs hosted the Lawrenceburg Tigers in an important EIAC match on Thursday evening. Both teams entered the game undefeated in conference play.
As expected it was a close and competitive game throughout all 80 minutes. For much of the first half the Tigers were in control of the game putting the Bulldog defense under pressure, according to coach Chris Fox. That pressure eventually led to a Lawrenceburg goal and the early lead.
“We continued to battle but was unable to answer before the end of the first half.,” Fox noted. “Starting the second half, we looked to get an equalizer early on but the Tigers were up to the task.”
The final 40 minutes was very fast and physical, according to Fox. Batesville found a few scoring opportunities but were unable to finish the play. Defensively, the Bulldogs fought off the continuous assault the Tigers threw at them. At the final whistle, the visiting Tigers remained undefeated in the EIAC and ended Batesville’s win streak .
“Lawrenceburg earned that win tonight by out playing us,” Fox stated. “They are a talented and quick team and deserved the victory.
“Defensively, we were solid but still made a few mistakes that cost us. Nate Slavin had an outstanding game in goal. He kept us in the game and showed great confidence for a freshman and was willing to put his body on the line on some of those saves,” he added.
