Batesville High School
Rushville Cons. High School
For the second game in a row, the Batesville Bulldogs were on the road.
This time the Bulldogs traveled to Rushville and defeated the host Lions by a score of 3-0. Batesville began the match with a lot of intensity and quickly put the Lion defense under pressure, according to coach Chris Fox.
Less than 8 minutes into the game, Austin Meyer sent a pass through the Rushville defense and into the path of Ian Yorn. Yorn took a touch to goal and hit a hard shot that beat the Lion Keeper to far post.
The score remained 1-0 starting the second half and the Lions seemed to gain some momentum.
The Bulldogs eventually got a little breathing room when Zack Blomer converted a Christian Wolfe free kick to put the visiting Batesville squad up 2-0. Five minutes later Nathan Batta sealed the game when he gathered a Justin Puente pass and slotted the ball just inside the far post and out of reach of the diving Rushville keeper.
Batesville ended the match with three goals on 19 shots and five corner kicks, according to Fox. The Bulldog defense preserved the shutout and limited the Lions to nine shots with only three on goal and zero corner kicks.
“This was a very good team performance on the road in conference play” Fox commented. “We played with a lot of intensity and overall good communication.
“Ian Yorn had a nice game in the first half as winger and then stepped in to fill in for Slavin in goal and made several key saves. Aaron Brandt had one of the best games in his high school career in my opinion,” he added.
Fox was also impressed with the offense. “We continue to work the ball around the pitch and look to create a lot of quick combinations,” he noted. “We spread the ball around well and had three different goal scores.
“If we continue to play like this and improve on some of the mistakes we will be a tough team to beat.,” Fox added.
