Girls Middle School Track, Girls Varsity Track · Lady Bulldogs second at sectional track and field meet


The Batesville High School girls track and field team claimed Sectional runner up Tuesday night at Franklin County.

“It was another close night between Batesville, East Central and Greensburg,” BHS coach Lisa Gausman commented.

East Central prevailed with 135 points followed by Batesville (126) and Greensburg (113.5).

“Although the Batesville girls scored beyond what they were expected and gave some awesome performances, the Trojans stepped up their game as well,” Gausman commented. “Congratulations to East Central!”

All athletes and relays that placed in the top three automatically qualify to regional competition next week at Shelbyville. The Lady Bulldogs are advancing in 10 individual events and all 3 relays!

Batesville took Sectional Championship honors in the 4 x 800m relay and the 4 x 100m relay. The 4 x 800m relay also broke the school record again by another 2 seconds winning in a time of 10:05.22, with the team of Mary Poltrack, Maria Wessel, Sarah Poltrack and Kelsey Gausman. The 4 x 100m relay team was Madeleine Robben, Haylee Harmeyer, Mary Elizabeth Elkins and Clare Bruns with the winning tome of 51.96. Sectional Runner up went to Kelsey Gausman in the 800m run, Madeleine Robben-200m dash, Mary Poltrack-3200m run, Mary Elizabeth Elkins-long jump, Samantha Heidlage-shot put and the 4 x 400m relay team of Mary Elizabeth Elkins, Madeleine Robben, Kelsey Gausman and Clare Bruns. Also advancing to Regionals by placing 3rd were: Sarah Poltrack-1600m run, Haylee Harmeyer-400m dash, Clare Bruns-300m hurdles, Samantha Heidlage-discus and Jessica Wagers-pole vault. Congratulations ladies!

Helping to add points to Batesville’s score were, 4th place finishers: Kelsey Gausman-1600m run, Emma Gausman-800m run and Mary Elizabeth Elkins-200m dash.
Maria Wessel finishing 5th place in the 3200m run. 6th place finishers: Clare Bruns-100m hurdles and Lexi Hatcher-pole vault. Haylee Harmeyer in the 100m dash and Alison Muckerheide-long jump.

There were also several personal records broken tonight and they were:

4 x 800m splits of Mary and Sarah Poltrack
